{OUR FOSTER DOG JOURNEY}
Zander and I have been fostering dogs since 2015, and have fostered more than 60 dogs together.
This page is a living photo book of all the dogs we’ve saved, and a glimpse into our life as foster parents. We hope it encourages anyone to try fostering, and open their hearts to a homeless dog in need.
Underdogs Rock! Rescue
We have been fostering through URR since 2017. Underdogs Rock! Rescue is a foster-based rescue (meaning they do not have a physical shelter), and are a small, but mighty rescue based in Portland.
As an experienced foster home that’s fostered with several different rescues, I’ve appreciated the autonomy, trust, and direct support I’m given as a foster parent. I’ve enjoyed supporting the rescue in deeper capacities with designing social media posts, supporting other fosters, and compiling records.
Underdogs Rock! Rescue includes their foster parents in the adoption process to work directly with placing our fosters with their new families which I’ve seen first hand helps ensure new homes are truly the right match for the dog and all humans involved!
A Promise to our FostersWhen you first arrive: we know you’re in a new, unknown place, and your story before may have been traumatic and even just the trip to us may be stressful. We’ll go at your pace and ensure you’re given the safety and comfort to decompress.
We will never punish you for doing something dogs may do: accidents in the house, having fun shredding something we preferred you not to do, or expressing your fear and uncertainty through barking or growling. It is our responsibility to guide you, to help you feel confident, and help you understand what behaviors we prefer. If you haven’t learned those yet that’s our job!
We want you to thrive while you’re here with us and promise to set you up for success. We’ll make sure you are getting physical and mental enrichment and necessary rest.
When it comes to receiving pets and affection we’ll make sure you don’t feel pressure and we’ll respect your space.
When looking for your new family, we’ll make sure that it’s a right fit for you first.
We know the right home takes time to find, and we will be patient and do our best to share you with the world so that your family finds you!

We often get the response, “I don’t know how you can give them up, I couldn’t do it.” or “you should adopt them!”, but we let them go so that we can open our home to another. If we kept my first foster Cassie, we couldn’t have saved Luna, Cesar, and the 51 dogs that came after. We let them go so we can save the next.
Saying goodbye, and sending them off to a new family is an act we do with our whole hearts, and every home we’ve adopted a foster to we know they’re going to the right home. When they leave our home to start the rest of their life with their new family, there are no gaps left in our hearts — are hearts grow bigger with each foster and the memories we make together.
